Through all this effort, we must have the mechanisms in place to determine the effect of our efforts and if we’re achieving the goals we intended. Identifying important baselines is a first step in determining what data points can provide the best actionable information. Einstein is credited with saying, “Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted.” This is typically an evolution as we get better at understanding our performance metrics and how those effect our end goals. Through this ongoing practice, teams become experts in their own performance data.
